In 2004 Mark R. Jones, a Charleston (SC) tour guide grew tired of reading boring and redundant books about "America's most historic city" - Charleston. Each year dozens of books are published about the Holy City, but in Mark's words, most of those books are basically "recycling garbage", meaning that the books are depressingly similar. How many more books does the world need about Charleston's
- role in the Civil War?
- houses, gardens and churches?
- high society?
- ghosts and legends?
"NONE" was Mark's response. So he looked around to discover a subject matter that had never been covered, and the WICKED CHARLESTON books are the result.
Jones, a long time frustrated novelist, decided to delve into non-fiction, specifically, the dark side of Charleston history - sex, murder and sin. Four years later Jones has turned his love of Charleston's wicked history in a full time career. In addition to researching and writing four books in four years, Jones operates Black Cat Tours, which offers day and night time walking tours which specialize in showing the OTHER side of the Holy City.
Mark has been featured on MSNBC, CMT, and NPR. He has also been a guest on the Asheville (NC) based radio show, Speaking of Strange, hosted by Joshua P. Warren and a guest on Michael Feldman's Whad' Ya Know? radio show.
